Straight Outta Hunters Point provides
an unvarnished look at life in the notorious Hunters Point Housing Projects located
in San Francisco. Local filmmaker Kevin Epps paints a telling portrait of the
neighborhood where he grew up and still lives. The result is a dramatic portrayal
of a community in crisis that has somehow managed to survive through a tumultuous
history.
A complex depiction of life and death, this film covers
the turf wars between rival gangs, the vibrant underground hip-hop scene, the
history of how the neighborhood was transformed into a toxic dumping ground, and
the everyday reality of the community living there.
Partial proceeds from screenings will help benefit the Hunters Point Youth Park
Foundation and Helping Hands Foundation.
